This article falls under the heading truths which are stranger than fiction.

Please feel free to comment on its veracity. It is among the primary reasons I’m attempting to share it first here:

It is too impossible to share but too impossible not to. Still I know how such a conundrum evaluates to true.

Let us begin by accepting that except in the utterly strictest use of the word impossible it is quite impossible in itself to use the term.

After all, a person would hardly need more than a minute to observe that a few things we might readily have previously described as ‘impossible’ (in the preemptive way we are obliged to use the term) have already happened:

My favorite example?

Randy “The Big Unit” Johnson hitting a bird in flight with a pitched ball.

Hall Of Famer Randy Johnson Kills Bird In Game — YouTube

(Scrub to 0:41 on that video to see the feathers.)

Was that unlikely or impossible before it happened?

Two to three nights ago, a MLB pitcher threw a ball which ricocheted off the ground in front of the plate, was still put in play by a batter (who was clearly determined to swing at it), and as the ball dribbled down the third base line, he also scrambled down to first and beat the throw.

Unlikely or impossible?
