The following excerpt from an email dated 1/3/20 explains specifically what I told Henrietta Tesla Service personnel, and when.

The time stamp on this message is clear. I also verified where to send it via a direct text message to the service manager prior to sending it, because this email contains product liability information, and I didn’t initially want to send it to a general mailbox.

The repairs specific to my car:

A couple of exchanges over the following two or three days with Jack seem to have followed roughly this sequence:

  1. he first attempted to put the 12V battery on a charger, since it’s required to wake the car up.
  2. when the 12V would not hold a charge, he traced the problem to a fault in the DC to DC converter

The vehicle’s log, as it was related to me on the phone, seemed to indicate that the failure of the DC to DC converter led to the vehicle shutdown.

I’ll here stipulate that I relate the part just above (to the three asterisks) to the best of my recollection. I don’t recall Jack’s specific words, and I don’t consider any of this to be a fault in the general approach Jack took in attempting to diagnose the situation.
