As heartfelt as I know your words are, you're wrong. Subtly wrong, perhaps, but wrong.

Right down to the baked-in arrogance of "tackling one difficult topic at a time."

...as if we'll finish this one in our lifetimes and skip happily right along to the next.

Now that I've lost your attention by speaking the truth too sincerely, I'll point to the issue that your piece gets most wrong:

The REALITY that pointing fingers is helpful in the process of achieving a resolution. The utterly IDIOTIC idea that, in order to fight climate change most effectively, we must first "beat" the billionaires. The idea that the prize somehow lies BEHIND the largest and most impossible-to-move obstacle in human history: Big Business.

And the similarly foolhardy notion that the miracle perversion of "Democracy"--i.e. the quaint idea that a vote in something-other-than-a-direct-democracy has a serious chance of setting things straight and doing it promptly.

You know I admire what you try to do. You can't not believe that I seek the same goals as you do. Unfortunately, you're not thinking far enough out of the box to help the situation. You're contributing directly to the misconception that the approaches we have right now can make abrupt and lasting change--the only change which is useful to even consider as a possibility. The only change which can transform things on the time frame we need to get it done.

We've grown in a social structure which scolds unconventional ideas and processes more than it takes them seriously. You want to think about what can make a difference? You need to start thinking FAR outside the [ballot] box. I'm not advocating the change of flames. I am not asserting that pitchforks and torches are the way. What I am saying is that you need to start thinking real hard about what is needed and stop focusing all your attention on trying to stop things that have had their time and are long overdue for a change.

You can start with "Merry Christmas, World" which I've posted also on this site.

Take things seriously, sure, but be ready to grab a metaphorical shovel, because flipping a switch isn't going to get this one done.

And we're all going to die along with the rest of the species if we don't get started on the hard work soon.
